If it doesn't work, we'll try again some other day. What is the world sharing day? World Sharing Day is a protest day for the World Intellectual Property day. A day that celebrates monopolies, and is against sharing of information worldwide, causing information to be more scarse and more difficult to obtain, regardless of technologies that are making this operation of sharing super simple. We the people have the right to share the information we are able to obtain with other people, for various reasons such as: * First, Do no Harm, Financial or otherwise. * Creating visibility to the originator of the said information * Helping people to perform functions themselves that they otherwise would not be able to do. * Creating an audience of foreign content (like, african, australian, chinese, polynesian etc.), allowing a greater worldwide regognition to be created. * Inormation should offer in the format that the people want it in. (Meaning, if it's released under a PDF, there should also be a ODT and a Doc file avalible, if there's a need created). * Information shouldn't be just held in a vault. * Do stuff, Share stuff. Dr. Richard Stallman also has the same idea: http://bit.ly/etAObI Aww Yea. What Should we Do? On World Sharing Day, we should share information that's out there. From CC Licensed ebooks, to musical albums and movies. We will get together and share what we have with other people. Maybe we will go to a party, bringing comics that other people might like to read, or to buy. Maybe we will create a mixtape of independent artists that would help people to discover new kinds of music. The point is to get what you have, and share it with other people, not just stick it into a silo, releasing it when the marketing goons say "it's time to sell!" What Can I Do? As for the first World Sharing day, it doesn't have to be anything big or that organized. We'll leave organization for a later date, when the original spirit of the day is starting to go away due to corporate sponsorship and involvment from the FSF and Linux Foundation. Here's what I got to say: Make something small, and post it somewhere where people can see it. It can be a book, an essay, a poem, a picture, a photo, it doesn't matter. Go to Twitter, Identi.ca, Facebook, Myspace, all the places and just say this: "Here is my contribution for World Sharing Day #WSD" Or, you could build a webpage, and link to whatever CC content you come across. Got a Book that you like and that's released under cc? Link to the book and to the creator on a website! Got an EP you and your band made? Throw it on there, add links to your band's website! Why, it can even be a piece of software you wrote! It doesn't matter if it's like, an application or just a 2D physics library! If we can use it, it would be cool if you shared it! What are YOU gonna do then, buddy? I did this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14190886/drawings/AmericanEffecincyTemplate.png It's a free comic strip template, where the person wanting to build upon it only needs to add speech bubbles and some text. The Idea is based on David Lynch's Comic Strip: "The Angriest Dog In The World". The idea was that the art of the comic strip would remain the same, only the text that people spoke changed. Here are some examples: http://www.davidlynch.de/angry.html I called my strip "American Efficiency", where the idea was that american comic strip artists started to rely on Photocopied artwork instead of drawing to save time. Just Do Something. See? We're not banging rocks together here, we know how to get the word of mouth going. If you want to use Open license like Creative Commons, that's even more great! Because then people can build upon your work! That's the greatest form of sharing, that is. Why Is the deadline so tight? Because: Release Early, Release often. Well, without the often part. Although there's been a lot of revisions just today. Because i can. Closing Words by Cave Johnson, CEO Of Aperture Science, deceased Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down! See that? I just shared a block of a speech from Portal 2, with you. The People. Wasn't that hard.
